Design Museum London - BALENCIAGA Le Cagole Pop Up - The Silence by Tadao Ando - PRÊT-À-PORTEA: Afternoon Tea at the Berkeley Hotel
The London Design Museum is a museum dedicated to contemporary design and architecture, located in the Kensington district of London. The museum was founded in 1989 and underwent a major expansion and renovation in 2016, which transformed it into one of the most innovative and visually striking cultural institutions in the city.
John Pawson’s design for the museum was inspired by the idea of creating a calm and minimalist space that would allow the museum’s exhibitions and installations to take center stage. The interior is characterized by a simple, monochromatic color scheme, with white walls and light-colored wood flooring throughout. Pawson’s signature attention to detail is evident in the careful selection of materials and textures, such as the use of white marble for the reception desk and the handcrafted oak seating in the café.
The building’s striking hyperbolic paraboloid roof is the most distinctive feature of its architecture. The roof was designed by the British architect Sir Robert Matthew, and its unique shape was intended to evoke the shape of a tent or canopy. The roof’s form is created by a series of curved steel ribs that span the entire length of the building and are connected by a system of diagonal supports.

After training himself in architecture from 1962-1969 he established the architecture bureau Tadao Ando Architect & Associates. In 1995 Tadao Ando received the Pritzker Prize. Tadao Ando is well known for his own kind of minimalism. Today the necessity of living in harmony with nature is his most important message.
